Sports Injury Treatment in Edmonton

Sports injuries include a variety of fractures, joint sprains, muscle strains, dislocations, contusions and concussions. The main difference between sports injuries and everyday injuries is that athletes tend to apply more intense stresses to their bodies and thus require a more in-depth understanding of the physical requirements necessary to return to peak performance for their sport. At Callingwood Physical Therapy and Sports Injury Clinic, our staff are athletes themselves, so we have various personal experiences and understand what is necessary for optimal return to your sport. Whether your goals are to be faster, stronger, less susceptible to injury or just want to perform your activities pain-free, we can help.

At Callingwood Physical Therapy & Sports Injury Clinic, our facility includes various gym equipment that our physiotherapists and kinesiologists (exercise specialists) will teach you exercises to optimize your recovery while pushing you to excel at whatever activities you love. This includes free weights, cable machines, therabands, balance equipment, cardio equipment, swiss balls and more.

Along with this, our therapists are trained in various manual therapy techniques that will optimize your recovery along the way. This includes joint mobilization, soft tissue work, massage/stretching techniques, intramuscular stimulation, acupuncture and the use of modalities such as interferential current, ultrasound, therapeutic cupping, and more to speed up your recovery process.

One of the most common questions that athletes have is “when can I safely return to my sport?”. Our team will perform an in-depth assessment of your injury and provide you with an estimate of what your recovery timeline will look like. After this, we strongly believe in having our patients be active in their rehabilitation. This means providing you with the education, tools and motivation to allow you to heal as fast as possible. Our team will cater your treatment and exercise program to you as an individual based on your activities’ goals, abilities, and requirements.

Athletes also require additional considerations to determine if specific aspects of your body and mechanics made you more susceptible to injury in the first place. By having in-depth experience in sports performance, our therapists will factor these considerations into your treatment plan to ensure you are less likely to re-injure yourself in the future.

At Callingwood Physical Therapy, our team believes we can get you on the fast track to return to your sport and allow you to return stronger and with confidence that you will not re-injure yourself. One of our primary goals is to improve your confidence as an athlete and give you the tools to continue improving even after being discharged. Our team members have been involved in a variety of varsity and national level sports such as volleyball, soccer, ringette, football, rugby, basketball, rock climbing, “ninja warrior,” running, cycling and more. This expert knowledge allows us to understand the intricacies of what you need to reach your peak performance potential in your activity of choice.
